Installing Boomi Atom on Linux Distribution

Introduction

The Boomi Atom is a key component of the Boomi platform when you choose to host your own Boomi environment. Installing the Boomi Atom on a Linux distribution is a straightforward process, allowing you to leverage the power of Boomi for your integration needs.

Besides having an Boomi atom which is a single runtime container you also have an option to host a Boomi Molecule which can run containerised in for example Kubernetes. It is also possible to use Boomi as a saas solution and use the cloud version.

Prerequisites

Before you begin the installation process, ensure you have the following:

  • A Linux distribution running on your server or virtual machine, following Boomi’s Molecule container distributions I would recommend using either Red Hat or Alpine distribution. In this demo an Ubuntu 22.4 03 LTS image is used, take this into account when copying commands.
  • Sufficient permissions to install software and manage system services.
  • An active Boomi account with access to the AtomSphere platform as an Administrator.

Installation Steps

01. Install Java JDK 11

To install Boomi Java is the only prerequisite, Amazon Corretto 11 will work great with Boomi but also with other Java framework tools like Apache Kafka.

wget -O- https://apt.corretto.aws/corretto.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo add-apt-repository 'deb https://apt.corretto.aws stable main'
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install -y java-11-amazon-corretto-jdk

Make sure you install this before installing the atom. Running above command download the file, based on your linux distribution it will ask a few confirmation questions. Valid java can be checked by the java –version command.

02. Download the Boomi atom Installer:

Log in to your Boomi account on the AtomSphere platform. Navigate to the Atom Management section and download the Linux installer for the Boomi Atom. Make sure you retrieve a token (only valid for selected time and can be used once),

3. Install Boomi Atom

Move atom installer file to Linux Machine: Transfer the downloaded installer file to your Linux machine, I would recommend using “boomi” as your local username and save the file in the user home directory. You can use SCP, SFTP, or any other preferred file transfer method.

Start atom installation: Open a terminal on your Linux machine and navigate to the directory where the installer file is located. Use the following command to run the installer:

sh atom_install64.sh -c

Follow the Installation Wizard: The installer will launch a graphical or text-based wizard depending on your system configuration. Follow the prompts to complete the installation process, it is really straight forwards.

Start the Atom Service: Once the installation is complete, control the Boomi Atom services using the following commands:

Your Boomi Atom is now installed and running on your Linux distribution. You can access the Atom Management console via your web browser to configure and manage your Atom.

Conclusion

Installing the Boomi Atom on a Linux distribution is a simple process that allows you to harness the power of Boomi for your integration projects. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can quickly set up and configure your Boomi Atom to seamlessly connect your applications, systems, and data sources.

My recomendation is to use this example to get familiair with the Boomi installation process and use proper infra as code (IaC) to deploy your environment.
